Your Story Matters: People, Places & Stories

Learn how documentary photography preserves culture, heritage, and everyday life.

Programme Overview

Your Story Matters: People, Places & Stories is the inaugural learning experience within The Archive Young Collectors' Programme™, an educational initiative introducing young people and emerging photographers to documentary photography, visual storytelling, and the importance of preserving cultural memory.

Using selected works from Between Signals and Transmissions: Your Story Matters, participants explore how photographs become archives, how stories shape identity, and how documentary practice contributes to preserving South Africa's cultural heritage.

Rather than simply learning how to use a camera, participants develop the ability to observe, listen, document, and tell meaningful stories about the people, places, and communities around them.
